Professor Gary J. Previts
Professor Gary Previts, a native of Cleveland, Ohio is the de Windt Professor in the Weatherhead School of Management, and a Distinguished University Professor at Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, OH USA. He was the founding and principal editor of Research in Accounting Regulation for its run of 30 volumes which included a special 10th Anniversary volume edited by Professor Larry M. Parker. Professor Previts is the recipient of the Gold Medal for Service awarded by the American Institute of CPAs, where he served as a member of its Board of Directors. Nationally, he has served as President of the American Accounting Association, an organization of academics in the discipline of accountancy that has been around for over a century, and also as the sub-committee chair of the U.S. Treasury’s Special Committee on the Auditing Profession, addressing issues of human capital management. He has served as a member of the Accountability Advisory Board of the Comptroller General of the United States, for two decades and also has served as a member of the Advisory Council to the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB), created as a body to assess the audit quality of publicly held companies as part of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002.
